What Moments Have Shaped You...into You ?
We are collecting people's life stories for the non-profit, participatory public art project called "Defining Moments". The outcome of the project will be an art exhibition. This participatory art project gives us a permission to invite the public to take a moment to reflect upon our own life. Through sharing and reading anonymous stories, we hope the project will increase self-awareness and encourage social empathy. - Wan-Yi and Roger
The project is funded in part by a community public art grant from the City of Maple Ridge’s Public Art Steering Committee and the exhibition will be mounted by The ACT Art Gallery.
Do you believe that like trees, we people also have growth rings? Metaphorically speaking, personal growth rings that people can't tell from the outside, only you know from the inside what have shaped you the person you are today. Join us to take a moment to tell moments in your life that have given you lasting impacts on you as a human being.
Your defining moments will become part of the project artwork and project exhibition. There is no limit to how many submissions per person. Please use participation cards provided at participation stations or submit online. We do ask you to keep each submission on one participation card or keep your online submission within 500 characters.
People are like trees. We all started from a seed with an intention so pure and perfect. We adapt to our constantly changing world. As time goes by, these moments in our environment are indefinitely and permanently recorded. Layer by layer like the growth rings on a tree, they are preserved like letters in a diary. An archive chronicles what shaped us in our life. -- Roger, co-founder of Mizzonk
Led by the artist team Wan-Yi Lin and Roger Chen/ Mizzonk, the project consists of two phases:
Phase 1 : Public participation, both online and at participation stations.
Phase 2 : An Exhibition in June 2017 at the ACT Art Gallery, Maple Ridge, BC Canada
